Kristine Alicia Thrills at Redbones

It was a Kristine Alicia takeover last Saturday as the up-and-coming singer/songwriter released her new single, Freedom Fighters, at a live music event at the Redbones Blues Café on Argyle Road.

Having been the opening act for several well known Jamaican entertainers including the likes of Etana and Freddie McGregor, Alicia is ready to take things to the next level and believes this single has the ability to get her noticed in the local sphere. Produced by popular Stone Love selector, Rory Gilligan, Freedom Fighters not only shows off the singer’s vocal ability, but also highlights her skills as a writer. Focused on being an agent of change, the entertainer ensures that her songs always have a positive message and Freedom Fighters is no different.

“Fighting doesn’t have to be negative,” Alicia explained as she introduced the song. “Fight for the things worth fighting for … the ones that will effect change and influence society in a positive way,” she encouraged. Though she didn’t perform the song until the very end of her set, the sizable crowd that gathered on the venue’s grounds waited patiently, and based on their reactions at the end of her performance, Freedom Fighters, may be one of those singles to look out for in the coming months.

With her backing band C Sharp on point and offering tremendous instrumental support, Alicia not only gave the audience a taste of her new material, but also performed some of her older songs as well as cover versions of some popular hits such as Adele’s Someone Like You and Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville’s All My Life (a duet she performed with recording artiste Chevaughn).

charisma

Emceed by the Vibes Master, Jerry D, the event showcased the best in live-music entertainment. Aside from performances from ‘the lady of the hour’, recording artiste Chevaughn was the night’s other highlight. Packing some smooth vocals and undeniable charisma, the entertainer had the audience glued to his every note, especially female patrons. Though his set was brief, he worked the stage and the audience was left wanting more as he made his exit.

Following Saturday night’s launch of her new single, Kristine Alicia is slated to embark on a multi-city tour in the US. Her next stop will set for Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the coming weeks.
